FEBRUARY FDA APPROVED DRUGS :
Apomorphine hydrochloride (Onapgo) Subcutaneous Infusion device, was newly approved FDA on Feb 3 ‘2025. It acts like dopaminergic agonist, helpful in treating motor fluctuations (OFF episodes) associated with Parkinson’s disease.
Mirdametinib (Gomekli) capsules & tablets were approved on Feb 11 ‘2025, for the treatment of neurofibromatosis associated with plexiform neurofibromas (NF1-PN). It is a MEK Inhibitor.
Vimseltinib (Romvimza) Capsules were approved on Feb 14 ‘2025 for the treatment of Tenosynovil Giant cell tumour. Mechanism involved is the switch control kinase inhibition of Colony Stimulating Factor 1 Receptor (CSF1R)
Chenodiol (Ctexli) was approved by FDA on Feb 21 ‘2025 for the treatment of Cerebrotendinous Xanthomatosis. Its a synthetically made form of bile acid-chenodeoxycholic acid.
Copper (Miudella) Intrauterine System was approved by FDA on FEB 24 ‘2025 for Birth control in women. It would be able to prevent pregnancy in reproductive aged females for upto 3 years.
Donesumab-bmwo (Stoboclo) injection was approved by FDA on Feb 28 ‘2025 for the treatment of Osteoporosis. It is a RANK Ligand (RANKL) Inhibitor.

A revolutionary tool was recently launched by US FDA namely- Chemical Contaminants Transparency Tool (CCT Tool). It is designed in the manner of an online searchable database. it can easily detect and analyse the health risk of contaminants found in food.
American College of Physicians (ACP) has issued a guideline stating treatment of episodic acute migraine headache in OPD Settings. Non pregnant adults, who do not respond adequately to NSAIDs, should be additionally given triptans.

Latest study reports that Medication containing Tirzepatide has promoted weight loss in non diabetic individuals too. Study has been included in journal Diabetes & Metabolism.

Here I will be sharing some insights of Pharmacology learnings from the classes I have taken this month or all that I have read in the subject.
My own reading topic comprises of Dengue fever and its treatment:
Dengue fever is caused when a mosquito infected with dengue virus bites.
Signs and symptoms vary from mild flu like symptoms to very severe dengue hemorrhagic fever. Second time infection is even more serious.
There are 4 types of dengue viruses (DENV) which can actually infect the mosquito.
This illness does not spread from one person to another unless a woman is pregnant who can transfer it to their child in womb
Serious infective states are seen in children, elderly and in second time infected people, else the infection stays quite mild.
As per studies, many people get infected every year but more than half of them, hardly show any sign and symptoms
As far is development of Immunity is concerned, once a person gets infected, antibodies to the specific strain are formed inside the body, but since there are 4 different strains of viruses, this immunity development is quite complicated.
Main sign and symptoms are very high fever, pain behind eyes, nausea, vomiting and muscle and joint pain.
Severe dengue hemorrhagic fever begins around 1-2 days after normal fever fades away. Signs and symptoms include stomach pain, nose bleeds, blood in stool, vomiting, gum bleeds, etc.
Mechanism is that the virus multiplies in body, harms blood cells and forms clots which finally affects blood vessels. Blood leaks from vessels leading to internal bleeding
Dengue is spread by Aedes mosquito
Diagnostic test is blood test.
Management involves - drinking plenty of water, good amount of rest, painkillers ( except, ibuprofen & aspirin as they may enhance internal bleeding)
Preventive measures include use of insect repellants, mosquito nets, covered doors, avoiding standing waters.
Two vaccines are being developed, (one is available in USA), they are generally for kids, sometimes used for adults too.
Normally dengue lasts from 3-7 days, if severe hemorrhagic fever develops, patient needs to be admitted in emergency medical care facility.

By offering balanced, nutritious meals, it can help to eradicate malnutrition and same time, educate masses, laymen and general public about healthy food choices.
Restaurants, etc can donate surplus food to these services, thereby avoiding food wastage
Local cultural festivals and traditions can be celebrated with different variety of foods and this can help people come together supporting unity in diversity.
Needy can be targeted and served on time at right location by use of geolocation technology, AI etc.
Sustainability and continuity of mobile free meal services can be ensured and helped by tech driven crowdfund raising and sponsorships.
By supporting and executing these services properly, community welfare can be strengthened.
