FROM MY CLASSROOM:
Here I will be sharing some insights of Pharmacology learnings from the classes I have taken this month or all that I have read in the subject.
My own reading topic comprises of Gout and its treatment:
Gout is a kind of arthritis
Most important signs and symptoms include pain, swelling, redness and tenderness in leg joints specially big toe. Other affected joints are ankles, knees, elbows and fingers. The joint movement is also restricted.
Major cause is estimated to be accumulation of urate crystals. This is due to high concentration of uric acid in the blood. Purines are broken down in uric acid and these are found richly in meats and sea foods. Fructose (fruit sugar) rich beverages and alcohol consumption also adds up to increased uric acid in the body. Dangerous conditions like obesity, metabolic syndrome, diabetes, heart diseases, etc also enhance uric acid in body.
Certain medications like anti hypertensive agents like thiazides, angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEIs), beta blockers, low dose aspirin, etc can too contribute in building up uric acid in body.
Men tend to develop gout in early ages while women are more prone to this situation after menopause.
Complications of gout could be frequent recurrent episodes. Another problem could be-accumulation of urate crystals as nodules under skin in regions of gingers, toes, elbows, ankles. These are known as Tophi. And sometimes, urate crystals could lead to kidney stones.
Various tests can help in diagnosis like joint fluid test, USG, X-Ray Imaging, blood test, etc
Different kinds of gouts or stages of gout are- Asymptomatic hyperuricemia, Acute gout, Intercritical gout, Chronic tophaceous gout and Pseudogout (deposition of calcium pyrophosphate, not uric acid)
Drugs for acute attacks are- Non steroidal Anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like Ibuprofen and Indomethacin, Colchicine (reduces pain) and Corticosteroids (Prednisone) which reduces inflammation and pain.
Drugs for chronic cases and complicated cases are- medicines inhibiting uric acid production like Allopurinol and Febuxostat. On the other hand, drugs like Probenecid enhance and aid in uric acid removal from the kidney.
Radgin Wiz®️
From Radgin Wiz Writing desk:
Well! November simply flew off writing - writing and writing!!
I joined the Rough Draft Challenge and have been quite slow in the whole writing process
These are the cons of being a pantser- a person who does not plot or plan the book before he/she writes :))
But then, the whole challenge is a joyous thing and I am enjoying it quite a lot
Such challenges make more words come out on the paper than you would usually do
Heartbreathings( Heartbreathings channel) by Sarra Cannon has always been inspirational to me in my writing motives. I highly recommend!
Lets see how many words do I finally get through!!
SIMPLE AND SPARKLING:
GOLDEN-ORANGE REMEDY- TURMERIC!!
I think I have talked about Curcumin in one of the last issues, this time it gonna be more dedicated discussion about Turmeric (plant) and Curcumin of course!!
Turmeric refers to the spice obtained from the ground roots of the plant- Curcuma longa. It contains curcumin compound.
It has warm, bitter taste and finds basic use as a spice in curries, foods and vegetables. It adds color, flavor and nutrition in foods
Turmeric is anti-inflammatory, reduces pain, improves liver function and is also anti-cancer agent.
Its cons include stomach upset, thinning of blood, stimulate contractions in pregnant women.
Its very helpful to treat osteoarthritis, depression, hay fever
Turmeric supplements are not good idea, they may promote kidney stones formation. Turmeric pills, gummies have high curcumin concentration and can interact with drugs like immunosuppresants, blood thinners and pain relievers.
Its great to have turmeric tea as it helps a lot. One can directly use turmeric root tea for the same purpose instead of using powdered curcumin.
Off the Cuff Talks:
RICHNESS AND BEAUTY OF INDIAN CULTURE
My heart is full of admiration and lovely memories post Diwali festivities. The richness, auspiciousness and beauty of Indian Culture is adorable and remarkable.
The beginnings and footmarks can be marked from the Indus Valley Civilizations. With the help of scriptures like Vedas, Ramayana, Bhagavad Geeta, Mahabharata, the wisdom and traditions are passing on from old generation to next generation. The teachings of ancient and modern sages and Gurus, have preserved the values and morals and laid the foundation of the culture.
The versatile yet brilliantly radiant and glorious richness of the Indian cultural heritage has signified the motto of Unity In Diversity.
India has given origin to Hinduism, Sikhism, Buddhism and Jainism. Indian spiritual philosophy promotes that he Whole world is one Family.
Yoga and Ayurveda has laid emphasis on healthy and complete holistic wellness and living.
The varied and diverse styles of art and architecture, the different music, musical instruments, art and dance forms add to the richness of the culture and connect variety of people together in a single bond via the performers and the audience.
The different kinds of food specialities of different places like northern India, Southern India, Western India and Eastern India all together is a celebration of food and cuisines in itself. People from every place enjoy all kind of foods and cuisines. this brings them and knits them more closely.
Different festivals in different regions, related versatile ethnic wears in clothes and jewellery all add up to richness and brightness of the Indian Kaleidoscope.
After all the diversity and versatility, the morals and values of all the religions, faiths are same throughout the Indian land and are an example to the global countries.
But there are challenges to the cultural preservation and its maintenance. The challenges are urbanisation, globalisation, modernisation, impact of the foreign culture and shift of values from one generation to the next generation. Youngsters find it painful and arduous to exercise old traditions and find it very difficult to balance ancient wealthy culture and traditions and modern outlook and technology.
People of all origins in the country, of all ages and regions need to work hard to preserve the richness and beauty of Indian Culture and Heritage!!
Well, That’s all from my end in this Lovely combo of August-September Issue. Hope it satisfies your quest for information and medical updates and News. Next issue/combo issue is on its way….
