Iptacopan (Fabhalta) was approved on December 5, 2023 for the treatment of Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria. It is a first-in-class, complement factor B inhibitor. It is administered as Capsules
Bevacizumab-tnjn (Avzivi) was approved on December 6, 2023 for the treatment of Multiple Cancers like colorectal cancer, non-small cell lung cancer, glioblastoma, renal cell carcinoma, cervical cancer, ovarian cancer, fallopian tube cancer and primary peritoneal cancer. It is a vascular endothelial growth factor biosimilar to Avastin. It is administered as Injection.
Lovotibeglogene autotemcel (Lyfgenia) was approved on December 8, 2023 for the treatment of Sickle Cell Disease and Vaso occlusive events. It is an autologous hematopoietic stem cell based gene therapy. It is administered as suspension for I.V. use
Eflornithine (Iwilfin) was approved on December 13, 2023 for the treatment of High Risk Neuroblastoma. It is an ornithine decarboxylase inhibitor. It is administered as Tablets
Immune Globulin I.V. , human stwk (Alyglo) was approved on December 15, 2023 for the treatment of Primary Immunodeficiency Syndrome. It is a 10% immune globulin liquid. It is administered as Liquid for I.V. Injection
Birch triterpenes (Filsuvez) was approved on December 19, 2023 for the treatment of Epidermolysis Bullosa. It is a topical birch bark extract used in treatment of wounds in adult and pediatric patients. It is administered as topical gel.
Eplontersen (Wainua) was approved on December 21, 2023 for the treatment of Hereditary Transthyretin-mediated Amyloid polyneuropathy (ATTRv-PN). It is a transthyretin directed antisense oligonucleotide. It is administered as Injection.

Artificial sweeteners containing Sucralose are considered to be Genotoxic i.e. they tend to damage DNA and as per research may result in colon cancer.
As per study done in 2023 on Indian individuals, identifying “Prediabetes” helps in preventing real diabetes type 2 by adopting control measure in diet and lifestyle.
Research predicts that risk of Alcoholic Cirrhosis is very much in people with habit of “Binge drinking” than drinking daily alcohol in moderate amounts. Diabetes ads on the risk of liver.
Studies from Finland researchers suggest that exercise is not solely responsible for longevity rather good habits like nutritious food, no smoking, good sleep etc also adds on to the factors promoting longevity

Here I will be sharing some insights of Pharmacology learnings from the classes I have taken this month and all that I have read in the subject.
My own reading topic comprises of Meftal Spas drug and its current status:
Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC) has warned against the use of Meftal Spas (brand name) medicine.
It is a combination medicine containing Mefenamic acid and Dicyclomine.
It is a famous painkiller used for menstrual cramps, inflammation and rheumatoid arthritis.
The mefenamic acid content can actually elevate symptoms of eosinophilia and systemic symptoms altogether referred to as DRESS SYNDROME.
DRESS- Drug Reaction with Eosinophilia & Systemic Symptoms
The main complications are skin rash, fever, swelling, organ involvement and eosinophilia.
The Government has cautioned to closely monitor the drug use and stay in watch for any of the above stated ADRs
Physicians if take proper patient history and take into account individual patient characters and monitor the drug use- can actually help avoid such complications as it is a very rare ADR also sometimes reported with Paracetamol and Ibuprofen

CARROT DAYS!!
Winters are marked by some special veggies and fruits and Carrots are definitely the best things available in this season. It has versatile uses and many benefits.
Carrots are root veggies (Daucus Carota) available in many colours. the purple variety has polyacetylenes while the yellow one is rich in lutein. Orange carrots contain most of alpha and beta carotenes while black ones are rich in phenolic compounds and the red variety contain maximum lycopene.
If you choose to eat carrots raw, you will get more of Vitamin C and they have lower glycemic index too!
If you choose to eat cooked carrots- they are rich in antiinflammatory and antioxidant qualities.
Carrots promote health vision
Carrots balance blood sugar and help in maintaining of weight
Carrots improve immunity and boost healthier brain power
Carrots reduce risk of cancer and heart disease.

Meditation is marvellous!!
Developing a daily meditation habit is a great way to remould yourself into a dynamic peaceful and energetic being. Even if done for 10 minutes , ot can induce transformation.

Keep a fixed separate place and go for a fixed time of the day.
It helps you get rid of clogged thought yarn and creates space and comfort in mind- in a way releasing tension, anxiety and worry.
Your routine and approach becomes more balanced and peaceful
